Research & Teaching
Macquarie Respiratory and Sleep is significantly involved in the new Macquarie University Doctor of Medicine program.
This is a degree offered in our Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and had its first intake of students in 2018. The course is an innovative program with international placements and administered within MQ Health – an academic health sciences centre that integrates patient-centred clinical care, teaching and research.
Our physicians are teachers and academics within this faculty, and are involved in both the day to day aspects of teaching as well as overall program direction and curriculum development. Students gain experience by attachments to our clinics, as well as ward and operating theatre placements. We are also involved in formal lectures, symposiums as well as bedside tutorials.
Resident Medical Officers, Registrars
Macquarie Respiratory and Sleep physicians supervise and train medical officers and registrars at Macquarie University Hospital, and are responsible for their teaching and accreditation. This is done in accordance with HETI (Health Education and Training Institute) guidelines, to ensure junior staff are adequately supervised at all times in a supportive educational environment.
