Dr Lydia Makarie Rofail is the head of the newly established Sleep Disorders Unit at Macquarie University Hospital and a senior lecturer at Macquarie University. She is also consultant in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at both Macquarie University Hospital and Concord Hospital. She has a wide range of expertise in Respiratory and Sleep conditions such as Asthma, COPD, Lung Cancer, Tuberculosis, Occupational Lung Disease, Interstitial Lung Disease, Respiratory Failure, Pre-operative assessment respiratory and sleep medicine assessment, Sleep Disordered Breathing, Insomnia, Restless Leg Syndrome, Circadian Disorders and Parasomnias.
After the completion of her physicians training she was involved in research through the University of Sydney and The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and has been awarded a PhD in Medicine by the University of Sydney for her research in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. She has presented her research locally and internationally at scientific meeting. Her research was published in leading renowned international sleep medicine journals. She was nominated twice for the young investigator award once by the Australasian Sleep Association and once by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.
